The appointment took place in Paris on Monday 8 November. The number of Italian creative cities rises to 13. Bortolamasi: 'A recognition that rewards the great networking work of the committee'
Modena is a Unesco Creative City for Media Arts and the first city in Italy to receive this recognition. The nomination was formalised on Monday 8 November, in Paris, by Unesco Director General Audrey Azoulay during the general conference that designated 49 new Creative Cities in the world. The Italian cities selected were Modena, for the Media arts cluster, and Como, in the Crafts and popular art sector. This brings the number of Unesco Creative Cities in Italy to 13.
"It is an important recognition of which we are proud,' is the first comment of Modena's mayor Gian Carlo Muzzarelli: 'Joining the Network of Unesco Creative Cities is a great opportunity, in which we have believed from the very beginning, dedicating attention, energy and a lot of teamwork to a project that would bring out all the values of our city and we have managed to obtain the result we hoped for, which is a further incentive to continue investing in culture, a decisive sector for the rebirth of our community.
Modena's inclusion in the Unesco Creative Cities for the Media Arts "fills us with joy," comments Culture Councillor Andrea Bortolamasi, emphasising that "the merit of this nomination is collective and the recognition rewards the great network work carried out by the entire committee that supported the candidacy in a choral and constant effort that began over a year ago and that bears witness to the great vitality of our city's cultural ecosystem. Being the first Italian city in the Media arts cluster has a profound value for us and is a stimulus that commits us to continue on the path of transformation and innovation in the cultural sphere, on the axes of creativity and an ever-increasing dialogue between humanistic and scientific knowledge and on digital innovations applied to culture and its languages'.
