Ten city cultural subjects are coordinated by the City Council in the Promoting Committee presented live on Facebook. Bortolamasi: 'Culture and technology dialogue in the media arts'
"We have chosen to focus our candidacy not on the development of a single major project, but on the strengthening of the existing network and future developments and transformations". This was said by Culture Councillor Andrea Bortolamasi when introducing the online meeting held today, Friday 12 February, at which the 'Promoting Committee' of Modena's candidacy as Unesco Creative City 2021 for Media Arts was presented. A network, the councillor defined it, on which the city can count in a stable and structured manner. Ten protagonists of the city's cultural scene, connected by their representatives via teleconference and sharing a protocol, have joined the promoting committee. In fact, in addition to councillor Bortolamasi and Vittorio Salmoni, national coordinator of the Italian Creative Cities belonging to the Unesco network, Donatella Pieri for Fondazione di Modena and Diego Teloni for Fondazione Brodolini - Laboratorio Aperto took part in the meeting live on Facebook; Gino Lugli and Lorenzo Respi for Fmav; Maria Chiara Montecchi for Gallerie Estensi; Matteo Al Kalak for Unimore; Donatella Solda for Fem; Silvia Cassanelli and Chiara Pellacani for Ert; Aldo Sisillo for Fondazione Teatro Comunale; Sveva Ruggiero for Art-ER; Giuliano Albarani for Fondazione Collegio S. Carlo. Carlo; Daniele Francesconi, director of Ago, also participated.
'Modena's bid,' Bortolamasi emphasised, 'wants to be a system bid, of the city, also in view of a post-Covid restart with culture as a factor of growth and development. And a process candidacy, because the city's transformation is an ongoing process, with regenerated places and spaces where culture and technology, humanistic and scientific knowledge, dialogue. And the subjects, in a network with each other and with the municipality, who have joined the Committee (which is still open to other realities), are the starting points of a transformation process towards a thinking and creative city, where different skills dialogue'.
In his speech, Vittorio Salmoni outlined the reasons why and how Modena can aspire to the candidacy as Unesco Creative City Media Arts.
The Creative Cities Network, in fact, is a Unesco programme active since 2004, involving a network of 246 cities in 72 countries on five continents. The aim is to promote knowledge, cooperation and projects among cities that have identified culture and creativity as the driving forces of their development. The watchwords are collaboration, sharing of knowledge and good practices, confrontation, planning, valorisation of intangible cultural heritage.
The online meeting saw the presentation of the logo that will accompany the candidacy, which has meanwhile been selected from 34 proposals received in a 'call for ideas' aimed at young people aged between 18 and 30. The process will now continue with initiatives organised and promoted by the various subjects networked in the Committee, related to the theme of Media arts and pertinent to the sphere for which Modena wants to be a candidate for Unesco Creative City 2021. A dedicated website is being set up that will provide information on the cultural subjects involved, the actions and events in Modena related to Media Arts.
