Making Modena's Municipal Theatre, named after Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni, more energy efficient and equipped with technological innovations to improve video and audio performance in digital transmissions. This is the goal of the project that the Municipality is submitting, for a total value of Euro 640,000, to the Emilia-Romagna Region's call for tenders for investments in the entertainment sector (Law 13 of 1999) in the two-year period 2025-2026.
The regional contribution can be a maximum of EUR 500,000, therefore, the municipality is committed to co-financing EUR 140,000, but to comply with
The 10 September deadline for submitting the application requires a budget variation, with an urgency procedure, which was approved on Wednesday 4 September by the municipal council, at the proposal of budget councillor Vittorio Molinari. The variation, the sixth in 2024, will then have to be ratified by the municipal council.
At the same council meeting, the executive project of the intervention was also approved, at the proposal of the Public Works Councillor Giulio Guerzoni, which envisages, in order to reduce energy consumption, the replacement of internal and external window frames where they are dilapidated and inefficient, especially in the dressing room area, but also on the floors of the various tiers of boxes and in the office area where the shutters removed years ago are to be reinstalled; the halogen stage projectors will also be replaced with LED projectors.
Technological innovations will involve the replacement and integration of equipment that enables the transition to a fully digital video signal distribution system, so that interconnection is possible for digital streaming and stage work. Audio mixers will also be replaced with state-of-the-art equipment that improves performance and reduces energy consumption.
Technological innovation and the adaptation of the structure in the direction of environmental sustainability, digitalisation and the automation of stage movements is a chapter that the Municipal Theatre has been working on for some time to improve its capacity and the quality of its offerings, which has already begun with two previous projects, one with regional funding, in 2018, and one with Pnrr funding in 2022. The previous projects have enabled, among other modernisations, the renovation of the trellis and the replacement of the lighting fixtures in the auditorium and offices with LED lights.
