The path towards candidacy continues. Online meeting between Mayor Muzzarelli, Councillor Bortolamasi, Unesco Ambassador Riccardo and Secretary General Vicenti
A new step in Modena's bid to become Unesco Creative City 2021 for 'Media arts'. An online meeting was held a few days ago in which the mayor Gian Carlo Muzzarelli and the councillor for Culture Andrea Bortolamasi told Massimo Riccardo, Unesco's Italian ambassador to Paris, and Enrico Vicenti, Secretary General of the Unesco National Commission for Italy, of the city's intention to apply. Vittorio Salmoni, national coordinator of the Italian Creative Cities belonging to the Unesco network, also took part in the teleconference.
At the meeting, the mayor and councillor, in announcing their intention to nominate Modena, emphasised the city's interest in joining a network of more than 200 cities around the world that are characterised, also in promotional terms, by excellence in cultural sectors. Modena's candidacy as Unesco Creative City 2021 would be the first by an Italian city in the Media Arts 'cluster', in the sign of a reality that invests in digital and technologies applied to cultural languages.
The Creative Cities Network is a Unesco programme active since 2004, involving a network of 246 cities in 72 countries on five continents. The aim is to promote knowledge, cooperation and projects among cities that have identified culture and creativity as the driving forces of their development. The watchwords are collaboration, sharing of knowledge and good practices, confrontation, planning, valorisation of intangible cultural heritage. Through the Network, in seven areas by cultural sectors - Music, Literature, Crafts and Folk Arts and Traditions, Design, Media Arts, Gastronomy, Cinema - cities can enhance their experiences and skills on national and international markets.
The candidacy process now continues with the choice of the 'logo' that will accompany it and with the sharing of the protocol by which the 'Promoting Committee' that will support the candidacy will be constituted, made up of representatives of institutes, organisations and subjects of the Modenese cultural scene in a network with each other and with the Municipality.
