Civic Looks is a project conceived and realised by the Culture Department of the Municipality of Modena, in collaboration with the Biblioteca civica di arte e architettura Luigi Poletti, the Historical Archive and FMAV - Fondazione Modena Arti Visive. The project is part of the activities of Modena UNESCO Creative City for Media Arts and enjoys the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
This year probe the neighbourhoods Buon Pastore, Cucchiari, Morane, La Punta-Vaciglio and Araldi-Speri with a twofold objective: to valorise the rich heritage preserved in the archives of the city's cultural institutions and, at the same time, to activate a process of production of new knowledge through the funding of photographic surveys on the contemporary city and the immense widespread heritage of amateur images.
Photographs that are not just private recollections, but real documents capable of restoring the fabric of collective memory and telling urban history from the point of view of those who lived it day by day.
