Electro-library

ancient musical heritage revived thanks to digital and performing arts

Electro-library is the new project by Fondazione Collegio San Carlo and Fondazione Ago Modena Fabbriche Culturali, supported by Fondazione di Modena, dedicated to the rediscovery of ancient musical heritage through digital technologies, performing arts and archival research.

At the heart of the initiative are the musical manuscripts from the 18th and 19th centuries preserved in the historical archives of the Fondazione Collegio San Carlo, now digitised and accessible online at patrimoniodigitale.fondazioneesancarlo.it and on the Lodovico Media Library, of the Interdepartmental Research Centre on Digital Humanities (DHMoRe) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

The scores were also recomposed and performed again by specialised musicians, restoring voice to works that had remained silent for almost two centuries.

This material also gave rise to new electronic compositions and an audiovisual project that will be presented during the Elettrobiblioteca events.

'Born under Minerva' is the exhibition dedicated to original sheet music, period costumes and librettos. During the visit one can listen to some of the ancient music, studied and recomposed, accompanied by a visual projection inspired by the baroque dances of the academies that characterised the training of young nobles.
