ColapesceDimartino in concert at the Teatro Comunale, the Duomo coming to life with lights and colours, and a circus theatre company in the Ferrari Park: the New Year's Eve celebrations for 2021 will not only last until 31 December, but will turn into a New Year's Eve programme that continues until Sunday 2 January, accompanying the people of Modena into the New Year.<\/p>\n

The playbill is entitled \"e quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle...\", to greet the last day of 2021 by remembering Dante, on the 700th anniversary of his death, with the last verse of the Inferno, when the poet and Virgil go out into the open under a starry night sky. Promoted by the Municipality of Modena, with the contribution of Fondazione di Modena, the project (worth 130,000 euro, including costs to guarantee anti-Covid security measures) is curated by Ater Fondazione.<\/p>\n

'With great joy we return live,' comments Culture Councillor Andrea Bortolamasi, 'with a festival that is safe and designed for everyone, combining different cultural languages in a contamination of music, theatre and media-arts. A festival spread across several locations in the city over several days to re-establish community ties and relationships that Covid has broken. The theatre, our Unesco site, a theatre in a park,' he continues, 'are the places we have chosen to accompany the city into 2022. The decision to project the mapping on the Duomo, after Modena's recognition as a Unesco creative city for media-arts, represents the union of past, present and future of our community'.<\/p>\n

Roberto De Lellis, director of Ater Fondazione, emphasises 'the power of Dante's poetry, the wonder of images that colour the Duomo, the fragility of a circus tent and the light music of two Sicilian singer-songwriters are the elements that make up this special New Year's Eve in Modena. The evening, which we have decided to title with the last verse of Inferno \"e quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle\" will be a great propitiatory rite that finds in the words of our greatest poet, an encouragement to look forward and come out into the light after the darkness of a long and painful crossing\".<\/p>\n

And it will be precisely the last canto of the Inferno that will be the subject of the monologue by actress Lucilla Giagnoni, who on 31 December will open the event at the Teatro Comunale, using Dante's words to symbolically leave behind the difficulties of 2021 and enter 2022 with hope. Starting at 10.30 p.m., Colapesce and Dimartino, the two singer-songwriters consecrated this year by the Sanremo Festival with the single \"Musica leggerissima\", will take the stage for a concert that will end just in time for the midnight greetings. The concert is free admission, reservation required.<\/p>\n

From the afternoon of 31 December and until 2 January, the side of the cathedral facing Piazza Grande will be highlighted by the projection, at regular intervals, of a videomapping created by light designer Carlo Cerri that will take the public on a journey of light where the viewer's perception is stimulated by the illusion of a reality that goes beyond the real.<\/p>\n

And on the same days, in the marquee at the Ferrari Park, the artists of the Teatro Nelle Foglie will give life to a lively circus that combines the power of street theatre and the poetry of figure theatre, including acrobatics, juggling and fun in a show, with free admission, designed for children and families and repeated in several replicas.<\/p>\n
