The new Rector presented her mandate guidelines, with cultural innovation and support for the development of the Ago complex among the priorities<\/strong><\/p>\n

'Innovate in order to pass on'. This is the title chosen for the guidelines of the six-year term of office of Rector Rita Cucchiara, presented on Thursday 4 December at the Church of San Carlo in Modena on the occasion of the inauguration of the 850th Academic Year of Unimore, a founding partner of the Ago Foundation together with the Municipality of Modena and the Modena Foundation. The ceremony opened with an academic procession of professors and lecturers who walked along Via Universit\u00e0, greeted by citizens and students, until they reached the Church, which welcomed the academic community and the authorities present.<\/p>\n

Opening the event, accompanied by the Unimore Choir, was Unimore Rector Rita Cucchiara's speech, in which she illustrated the 2025-2031 Mandate Plan (available here), which includes social innovation among the priorities of the so-called Third Mission, cultural and museum-related innovation with \"the promotion of projects integrating science, art, culture and inclusion, enhancing the museums, archives and tangible and intangible heritage of the University, supporting the development of the Ago Complex as an interdisciplinary cultural and scientific pole\".<\/p>\n

In the guidelines, the Ago complex is defined as 'a new strategic platform for the encounter between science, art and technology: a place for research, exhibition and education that combines historical heritage and contemporary experimentation, fostering collaboration between universities, cultural institutions, civic bodies and citizens. Ago will be the hub of an open cultural and scientific ecosystem, dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge and public participation, with a focus on sustainability and digital culture'.<\/p>\n

In her speech, the Rector emphasised that 'in an uncertain and rapidly changing global context, the university must remain a solid institution, rooted in its traditions, but capable of anticipating and guiding the future. The university must train people capable of understanding complexity, adapting to change and dealing with its difficulties'.<\/p>\n

For Cucchiara, therefore, Unimore \"must represent the place where the future is built every day, with critical thinking, knowledge and responsibility. In all its missions, in research, in the education of the new generations, and in collaboration with society and the world of production, the University is called upon to operate as an engine of progress and a guardian of values, preserving the heritage of the past and generating the culture and knowledge of tomorrow. As Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, this is the challenge I want to take up together with the entire academic community. I have entitled my Mandate Plan 'innovate in order to pass on', i.e. to bring digital transformation to organisational processes, to define modern, flexible and attractive models of teaching, and to take care of basic and applied research in order to pass on our heritage of knowledge in the years to come. The Plan is addressed to the academic and student community, the city and the territory, with the hope of working together over the next six years to consolidate and relaunch the University, planning together, in a complex geopolitical context, the role of the oldest public institution in the territory\".<\/p>\n
