It is a reflection on the relationship between art and new algorithmic gestures that digital artist Quayola will be proposing in Modena, with Fondazione Ago, from Friday 19 September during the Festivalfilosofia dedicated to Paideia, i.e. the transmission of knowledge.

After the 'Nuovo Paesaggio' exhibition in recent months in Doha, Qatar, promoted by the Italian Embassy with the Qatar Museums and supported by the Ministry of Culture's General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity, with the collaboration of Fondazione Ago Modena Fabbriche Culturali and curated by Claudio Composti, Quayola therefore returns to Modena where in 2020 he had realised his first solo exhibition in an Italian public institution, the then Fondazione Modena arti visive: 'Ultima perfezione', curated by Daniele De Luigi.

It is precisely De Luigi who is the curator of the new exhibition that, with the collaboration of Quayola Studio and also on the basis of the experience developed in Qatar together with the Embassy and the Ministry, proposes a small selection of works at Palazzo Santa Margherita until 5 October: one from the "Storms" series, the same one presented in Qatar, and two from the "Judith and Holofernes" series ("Iconographies #21-80: Judith and Holofernes"), already present in the Fondazione Ago collections. Accompanying the exhibition is a video interview with the artist on his experience of "working" with machines and his relationship with technology: "It is an opportunity to discover new ways of seeing the world," says Quayola, "it is an extension of our senses, allowing us to perceive reality in a radically new and different way.

In his practice, Quayola develops customised software to investigate the new algorithmic aesthetics that emerge from his collaboration with machines: "I am fascinated by code and technology, not as a means to reproduce a subject, but rather as the very subjects of investigation.

"Quayola," says Daniele De Luigi, "uses technology as a lens to explore the tensions and balances between seemingly opposing forces: the real and the artificial, the figurative and the abstract, the old and the new. Through immersive installations, he reinterprets the traditional imagery of art history. His diverse practice, entirely derived from customised software, also includes audiovisual performances, immersive video installations, sculptures and works on paper".

His works can be found in numerous prestigious cultural institutions around the world: from the V&A in London to the Park Avenue Armory in New York, from the National Art Center in Tokyo to the UCCA in Beijing, and on to the How Art Museum in Shanghai, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, and the Ars Electronica in Linz, where he received the Golden Nica Award in 2013. His collaborations in musical projects are also numerous.

During Festivalfilosofia the exhibition is open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 September, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday 21 September. From the following week the exhibition is open, again with free admission, from Wednesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Information: www.agomodena.it.

From 19 September with Fondazione Ago a selection of works by the digital artist exploring the relationship between art and new technologies also developed in the exhibition in Qatar with the Embassy The artists...
["default
default
[475

post-5123","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news
["GET
