Shows, music and art-related initiatives in the area between Palazzo dei Musei and the former hospital building site, pedestrianised from July to September, with an installation designed by architect Ratti: a dialogue between past and future<\/strong><\/p>\n

The heart of this year's Modena Summer will be 'santAGOstino. A square for culture'. To host shows, music, activities and art-related initiatives, the area between the Palazzo dei Musei and the former hospital building site will be pedestrianised from July to September. The layout that will temporarily replace the parking area, designed by Studio Carlo Ratti e Associati, recalls the works currently underway in the building complex, at the end of which, from next year, the areas that will host the University Museums, the Fondazione Ago exhibitions, the Figurine Museum, the activities of FEM - Future Education Modena and DHMore will gradually be returned to the city.<\/p>\n

Over the next few months, the pedestrianisation of Piazza Sant'Agostino will have the task of bringing to the city's attention the story of the restoration work underway by the Fondazione di Modena, through a dialogue between past, present and future, with installations, narrations and guided tours of the site starting from the foyer of the Ex Ospedale, which will be open to the public to show the restoration of the large exhibition area overlooking Via Emilia.<\/p>\n

The initiative was presented at a press conference at the City Hall with the mayor Massimo Mezzetti, the president of Fondazione di Modena Matteo Tiezzi, the president of Fondazione Ago Donatella Pieri and, in connection, the curator of the Venice Architecture Biennial Carlo Ratti, who is one of the designers of the redevelopment project and is responsible for the layout of the square.<\/p>\n

The new installation will animate the square from Tuesday, 1 July to Friday, 26 September, when the area will return to its current appearance at the end of the 2025 edition of the festivalfilosofia, temporarily transforming the area, freed from parking, into a renewed social and meeting space for the city. The bus lane will remain, while a bicycle and pedestrian path will be created alongside the installations.<\/p>\n

Coinciding with the pedestrianisation of the square, a first portion of the restored fa\u00e7ade of the former Sant'Agostino will also be definitively uncovered, the one corresponding to the west entrance or foyer from which it will then be possible to take a look at some of the spaces where work is nearing completion and where a multimedia exhibition dedicated to the restoration of the building will also be located. From here, guided tours of the construction site open to the public will begin, with bookings on the website www.agomodena.it<\/a> from 19 June.<\/p>\n

In the square, the set-ups will be graphically coordinated and will recall the image of the construction site, also with the reuse of some parts of the cover sheet that covered the fa\u00e7ade of the building complex for three years. On the stage, located in the western area, with 200 seats, a varied programme of concerts, shows, meetings and film screenings will take place, developed by the Municipality's Culture Department, which will be presented in mid-June together with the complete programme of the Modenese Summer. Thirty or so evening events with free admission will open on Friday 18 July with the show \"Il talento di essere tutti e nessuno\" (The talent of being everyone and no one) by actor and voice actor Luca Ward.<\/p>\n

On the other side of the square, however, between the entrance to the Palazzo dei Musei and the churchyard, there is a dehors with a refreshment area, managed by the Bar Mosaico of the Palazzo dei Musei, and a space for the 'Ago Off' initiatives coordinated by the Fondazione Ago: some twenty appointments scheduled at 7 p.m. (on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) with dialogues around art, workshops and laboratories for children, the story of the restoration of the former Sant'Agostino with \"Per filo e per segno\", the activity that accompanies the architectural restoration work and the traditional artistic-historical reading of the complex, and, again, previews of the exhibitions and activities also scheduled by Fem, the University Museums and DHMore.<\/p>\n
