The field of information is one of the main terrains in which increasingly sophisticated forms of conditioning public opinion and manipulating reality take place. On Thursday 26 September at 9 p.m. at the San Carlo Church in Modena, the 2024 edition of Smart Life Festival will be officially opened with a talk on \"Truth Machines. Reality between information, investigations and deepfakes'.<\/p>\n

The event is in collaboration with Dig Festival and will be attended by Rita Cucchiara (professor of Computer Engineering and scientific head of AImageLab Unimore), Gianni Riotta (journalist, director of the Master in Journalism and of the Data Lab Research Centre Luiss University of Rome), Alberto Nerazzini (journalist, president of Dig Festival) and Flavia Fratello (journalist and TV presenter). The meeting will take an in-depth look at the technological transformations underlying the generation and dissemination of content on traditional media and digital channels; the possibility of verifying and reporting facts through in-depth analyses and investigations; the new frontiers of countering disinformation, including the projects developed by the Luiss Data Lab in collaboration with Fieg Federazione Italiana Editori Giornali, with the support of Google.org and the patronage of the National Cybersecurity Agency.<\/p>\n

On Saturday 28 September at 9 p.m., Massimo Polidoro's stage lecture 'The Science of the Incredible' will explore the relationship between science and truth. Piero Angela's historical collaborator, co-author of his latest book \"La meraviglia del tutto\" (The Wonder of Everything), lecturer, populariser, co-founder and national secretary of Cicap, the Italian Committee for the Control of Pseudoscience Claims, will take the audience on a journey to rediscover the importance of knowledge and critical thinking in a world dominated by false truths.<\/p>\n

On Sunday 29 September at 4 p.m., in collaboration with Fmav Fondazione Modena Arti Visive, the talk \"Human, technological and natural intelligence for a new environmental ontology\" will be held with Marco Mancuso, critic and curator, Laura Palazzani, bioethics expert and lecturer in Philosophy of Law at the Lumsa University in Rome, and Alessandra Gribaldo, lecturer in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The meeting will reflect on critical points, false assumptions and possible developments related to new ways of relating between human beings, computational machines and natural systems.<\/p>\n

At the end of the panel, the audience can take part in a special guided tour of the exhibition 'Umwelt', dedicated to the relationship between intelligence and environment, curated by Marco Mancuso and proposed by Fmav on the occasion of Smart Life Festival.<\/p>\n

Many other guests will animate the festival programme; among them, the illustrator of the covers of the historic Italian science fiction series Urania, Franco Brambilla, who will participate with a special and original edition of his project 'Invading The Vintage', dedicated to the figurative exploration of real and imaginary landscapes.<\/p>\n

This edition of the Smart Life Festival will also be enriched by Smart School, the extensive programme dedicated to the world of education and schools: more than twenty appointments, including laboratories, workshops, expos and in-depth studies, are aimed at students from Modenese schools of all levels.<\/p>\n

These include the talk \"Intelligents by nature. Plants and animals: builders of worlds and relationships\", scheduled for Thursday 26 September at 5.30 p.m., in collaboration with Centro Memo and Fondazione degli Architetti di Modena, with the participation of zooanthropologist Roberto Marchesini and Unimore biologist and researcher Laura Arru, who will reflect together with other guests on truths that are still little known but fundamental in the relationship between artificial intelligence and animal intelligence.<\/p>\n

Finally, on Sunday 29 September, at 9 p.m., the appointment with schools returns with a performance that will interweave fashion, technology, music and dance. The performance \"Hentai. Digital metamorphosis\", which combines the technical-informatics creativity of Itis Corni, the fashion creativity of Istituto Deledda, and the artistic and musical creativity of Liceo Sigonio, with the collaboration of Arte Equilibra, will see the students as the protagonists of a performance fashion show that reworks the theme of the festival in the key of transformation and change.<\/p>\n

The complete festival programme will soon be available on the website (https:\/\/www.smartlifefestival.it\/) and on social media.
