Site-specific installation which through a combination of sounds, lights, images and music offers the public an immersive experience, curated by the Soundtracks Collective.

The event will take place on Tuesday 9 January 2024 at 5.00 pm, (repeats at 6.00 pm, 7.00 pm, 8.00 pm), in Strada Santa Caterina, corner Ciro Menotti, near the memorial to the fallen of the foundries, on the occasion of the commemoration of the massacre of the Modena foundries.

The noise of January 9th is a multimedia installation designed to commemorate the Modena Foundry massacre in 1950.

The musical track was composed for the occasion and is enriched by original recordings of the time and contemporary sound sources: an alternation of music, field recordings, sound design and vocal inserts.

The sound dramaturgy is based on a narrative development that involves the alternation of original audio fragments of the time and musical pieces composed by the Soundtracks collective, as well as the Pink Floyd song “Goodbye Cruel World”, which concludes the composition in choral version.

A light design work created using software capable of translating sound impulses into plays of light and transforming musical stimuli into visual elements.

Soundtracks is an artistic residency project of the Music Center of the Municipality of Modena which works on the integration between musical and cinematographic languages.

The project is conceived and promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Modena and Modena UNESCO Creative City for the Media Arts, the result of the collaboration between the Music Center and the Historical Institute of the Resistance of Modena, as part of the initiatives of the Committee for the history and the memories of the twentieth century.
