Maps, cartography, communication networks and of course the world of the Internet. The American artist's first solo exhibition in Italy
The exhibition traces the artist's most recent production through installations, videos and analogue works. The undisputed protagonist of the exhibition is the new installation, created especially for the occasion, entitled ... [dot dot dot] (the letter "s" of the Morse alphabet): it is an inverted triangular prism, suspended, and composed of Ethernet cables that converge in a router (to which visitors can connect). The reference is to the radio antenna erected by Guglielmo Marconi in 1901 at Poldhu in Cornwall. Fascinated by the history of communication networks, Roth creates a point of contact between the internet and radio, as both media use the electromagnetic wave spectrum. The aim, explains the curator, is to "try to understand how the communication system works in order to activate a critical consciousness towards it and perceive its distortions".
